Magpies Lose Grand Final Despite Gutsy Performance                                                 4-9-08

In the Under 18’s Paccon Plate (A’s) Grand Final last Sunday (August 31) down at Community Oval, Moss Vale (Southern Highlands), the Picton Magpies went down to the Mt. Annan / Currans Hills Knights 24 to 18 in what was a gutsy performance.

For much of the match between the Knights and the Magpies, easily the best two sides in this year’s Under 18’s Paccon Plate competition, there wasn’t much that separated them and score line certainly indicated that.

During the middle stages of the second half it looked as if the Magpies were on top, but a late surge from the Knights got them back in control and they ran out winners 24 points to 18.

Without a doubt two of the best players on the field for the Magpies during the Grand Final were second rower Brendan Shepherd and fullback Jack Twist, but Coach, Darren Jones, a member of the 2001 losing Under 18’s Magpie side that went down to the Mt. Annan / Currans Hill Knights, would have to be mighty proud of his entire sides efforts throughout the 2008 season.
