When
the Picton Magpies travelled up to Community Oval in
Moss Vale (Southern Highlands) to take on the Moss Vale
Dragons last Sunday in the 14th round of the Group 6
first grade rugby league competition they never expected
the score line to turn out the way it did.
Hit
heavily by a recent spate of injuries to key players,
the Magpies were simply outclassed on the day by the
Dragons who managed to put a 62 to 6 score line by full-time.
The score line was on track to be 62 – 0 only for the
Magpies to score a converted try in the final minutes
of the game to make the score 62 to 6.
At
the half-time break the Dragons led 38 – 0.
With
the semi-finals not far away, the Magpies are hoping
to get the bulk of their more established players back
on the field in order for them to be any hope of recapturing
their mid season form in time for the semi-finals fixture.
The Magpies play the Camden Rams this Sunday, and then
the following weekend play the Dragons once again in
a catch up match for their postponed match from the
second round. Currently, the Magpies sit fourth on the
competition first grade ladder behind leaders the Thirlmere
Roosters, Moss Vale Dragons and Oakdale Workers, and
they are looking to maintain the final spot in the semi-finals.
In
both reserve grade and Under 18 A’s the Magpies recorded
wins by downing the Dragons 24 to 16 in reserve grade
and they gave the Dragons a 60 to 10 hiding in Under
18 A’s. The Under 18 B’s had a bye.
This
Sunday (August 3) the Magpies take on the Camden Rams
at Kirkham Park in Camden in both first grade, reserve
grade, and Under 18 A’s, while the Under 18 B’s play
the Bowral Bunnies at Loseby Park in Bowral also on
Sunday.
